In the Netflix drama “The Swimmers” Matthias Schweighöfer plays a swimming coach. In fact, he has a different goal.
Berlin – Matthias Schweighöfer (41) has an ambivalent relationship with swimming. “I think I only have the seahorse. I used to swim a lot and I loved it. It’s fun for me, but I also get bored quickly,” said the actor of the German Press Agency. “You have to develop a discipline so that you can do it professionally and persevere. That’s awesome.”
The filmmaker stars as a swim coach in the Netflix drama The Swimmers. The film tells the true story of the Syrian sisters Yusra and Sarah Mardini, who fled to Berlin in 2015. A year later, Yusra took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, fulfilling a childhood dream.
And what did Schweighöfer dream of as a little boy? “I’ve always been interested in the Hollywood industry. This was the Mecca I always wanted to be. Hollywood would be my Olympia.” dpa
