Four people were killed on Saturday evening in the fire of their house in Trans, in the north of Mayenne, the Laval prosecutor’s office announced on Sunday, according to which three children could be among the victims.

The house affected by the fire “was occupied by a family made up of a couple and four children aged 13, four, three and two,” Laval prosecutor Anne-Lyse Jarthon said in a statement. .

Father and two-year-old rescued

The 42-year-old father “succeeded in being extracted from the burning house as well as the two-year-old child” whose life is not in danger.

The man was meanwhile “helicoptered in a state of absolute emergency and his vital prognosis is engaged”, specifies the press release.

Significant emergency resources were deployed and several hours were needed to control and put an end to the fire, adds the prosecution.

An autopsy to come on Tuesday

“Following the response operations, four dead bodies were discovered inside the house. They could be the other members of the family, namely the 37-year-old woman, and the three children aged 13, four and three,” continues Anne-Lyse Jarthon.

Autopsies of the dead people will be carried out on Tuesday by the forensic institute of Angers.

An investigation has been opened to clarify the circumstances of this tragedy but “the first investigations suggest as it stands that this fire could have an accidental origin”, according to the prosecutor of Laval.
