Microsoft is donating $10,000 to the Gnome Linux desktop

For the past two years, Microsoft has been donating money to open source projects on a regular basis. From the 2020 launched OSS Fund €10,000 goes to an open source project every month. All Microsoft employees who work on an open source project themselves can vote for the recipient.

The May 2022 award goes to the Gnome Project, a Linux desktop used by default in Ubuntu, Fedora, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux. This was shared by Emma Irwin from Microsoft’s Open Source Programs Office on twitter With. Other award winners over the past two years have included OpenStreetMap, the virtualizer Qemu, the visualization library for Python matplotlib, MSYS2, an environment for easily creating Windows applications, and systemd. The nomination for the June award winner is currently ongoing.
