Microsoft is making it easier to play digital Xbox games offline

If you’ve ever tried to play a digital game offline but were stopped because the console couldn’t verify that you actually owned the product, it’s because of the platform’s DRM (digital rights management).

This has been quite a problem for Xbox owners over the years, with players all too often unable to dive into digital titles they actually own when there wasn’t an available connection, but luckily Microsoft has now addressed the situation.

As Windows Central reports, Eden Marie, Xbox engineering lead, has confirmed that a new Xbox update has lowered the number of DRM checks that an Xbox console must pass. However, it is noted that some so-called “day one” updates will still sometimes be required as the code on some discs cannot be used or where the discs are simply blank, but regardless of this it should make it easier to play games offline.
