Microsoft releases new security tools for businesses

At this year’s Build developer conference, Microsoft announced new managed services from Microsoft Security. These tools are for businesses and organizations. Now some of the offerings are out of the beta test phase and have thus become widely available.

This also applies to “Microsoft Defender Experts for Hunting”. Behind the unwieldy name hides a completely new offer that proactively searches for threats in company networks allowswith the help of real experts and, of course, supported by an AI.

“Experts on Demand” then allows real Microsoft experts to be asked about a specific incident, a state attacker or an attack vector at any time with a simple mouse click. Customers receive specific security recommendations on request.

The second major enterprise security innovation launched is in the Defender area. The tools are called “Defender Threat Intelligence” and “Defender External Attack Surface Management (EASM)”. Part of the new technology for these two tools comes from the takeover of the security service provider RiskIQ. Microsoft bought the company for half a billion dollars last year.

Access to real-time data

At first glance, they offer similar services to Microsoft Defender Experts for Hunting in that it’s a managed security service. However, according to Microsoft, the main difference between the offerings is that they offer customers direct access to real-time data from Microsoft. The special thing about all the new tools is that Microsoft can use them to provide a view of weak points in the network that otherwise only hackers have.

know security gaps

Defender External Attack Surface Management helps customers discover unmanaged resources that could be potential entry points for attackers. Microsoft Defender Threat Intelligence, on the other hand, provides data to uncover attacker infrastructure and accelerate attack investigation and remediation.
