Two studios that smell of rubber and gasoline

We can confirm that Criterion Games and the Codemasters Cheshire development team have officially come together to build the future of Need For Speed, forming a Criterion Studio with two localization hubs. This integration builds on the close partnership that the two studios have developed over the past few months. Sharing common values and similar cultures, we strongly believe that uniting the immense wealth of expertise of both teams will help us deliver the best possible racing game experiences to our players.

Codemasters Cheshire, formerly Evolution Studios, will therefore be integrated into Criterion Games. Criterion will thus be divided into two studios in the United Kingdom: one in Frodsham in Cheshire, and one in Guildford in Surrey. As a reminder, Codemasters Cheshire is known for developing Onrush, DiRT 5, Driveclub, Motorstorm RC … For his part, Criterion has long been a famous studio for its car games such as Burnout Revenge, Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit, the reboot of 2012 Need for Speed: Most Wanted or Need For Speed Rivals, collaborating several times with Ghost Games. More recently, Criterion has developed the Star Wars space battles: Battlefront II, the battle-royale of Battlefield V and assisted DICE on Battlefield 2042.

The next Need For Speed will benefit from their expertise

Criterion Games had to postpone the development of the next episode of Need For Speed to assist DICE on Battlefield 2042. Now the studio is focused solely on EA’s future car game. Fans will therefore appreciate that Criterion can benefit from the expertise of Codemasters Cheshire developers, who join their team. On the other hand, note that it is the Birmingham studio of Codemasters, which manages the series of F1 games, so it is not expected that this absorption will change anything as a result of this franchise.
