After “My Neighbor Totoro”, “Princess Mononoke” or “Memories of Marnie”, Netflix continues to delight fans of Studio Ghibli. The latest “Aya and the Witch” is already coming to the platform’s catalog.
Netflix continues to diversify its content. After adding a large space dedicated to the creations for which French cinema is famous and multiplying the new functions for audio or viewing, the streaming service continues to make its mark on prestigious themes as well.
And it is the anime fans who are going to be delighted. For several months, the American platform has been boosting its contents in this domain with the addition of many animated films including the series Naruto, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Pokémon Indigo League or Baki Hanma, the original series Castlevania. Before the arrival on November 19 of the adaptation of the famous anime Cowboy Bebop in the original Netflix series in Live Action, it is the studio Ghibli which invites itself a little more in the catalog.
Already 55 million spectators
Thus, the collection dedicated to Studio Ghibli is enriched a little more with the arrival of Aya and the witch in the coming days. This will be the 22nd film offered to fans of the famous anime studio since 2020.
According to Netflix, some 55 million households have already watched at least one of the Japanese studio’s creations (or at least enough minutes to count). The Castle in the Sky, Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro or Porco Rosso and Spirited away which was awarded at the Oscars, as many successful titles as we owe to Studio Ghibli. This offers Netflix its very first 3D animation title.
Aya and the witch tells the story of a determined young orphan who discovers magical powers after being adopted by a selfish witch. This story is inspired by the eponymous novel by English author Diana Wynne Jones. The film was directed by Goro Miyazaki to whom we owe The Tales of an Earthquake and Poppy Hill.
The adventures of Aya will be available in the coming days all over the world in different languages, including French, or in the original version with subtitles.
