For the third time, a earthquake with a magnitude greater than 7.0 (7.7 specifically), a September 19th in Mexico. In the case of this Monday, the epicenter originated south of Coalcomán, Michoacán, and impacted at least five entities in the country.
According to the most recent information confirmed by the federal government and Civil Protection authorities, the earthquake on September 19, 2022 caused the death of two peopleboth in the state of Colima.
In this same state, the largest aftershock (5.8) was recorded at 03:17 on September 20, which originated 70 km southeast of Tecomán.
Preliminarily, the National Seismological Service had reported a magnitude of 5.9. However, minutes later, he published the update in which it was determined that the aftershock had a final magnitude of 5.8, making it the most intense of the more than 500 registered so far after the earthquake of September 19.
Until 03:43 hrs., the National Civil Protection Coordination (CNPC) reported that there were no reports of damage in the states where it was perceived, but monitoring is maintained for any possible damage.
In addition, the same agency confirmed that there are no significant variations in sea level due to this aftershock, so it is estimated that there is no danger of a tsunami and there will be no risk to the port operation.
For her part, the governor of the state of Colima, Indira Vizcaíno, commented that the Civil Protection protocols will be maintained.
This aftershock was also noticeable in Jalisco and Michoacán, according to reports from citizens and state authorities.
In the case of Michoacan, the Civil Protection Coordination communicated the state of “permanent alert” before the new earthquake originated in Tecomán. They reiterated that any eventuality can be reported to the 911 emergency number.
According to information from the National Communication and Operation Center (CENACOM), in Michoacán the aftershock was slightly perceptible in the municipalities of Lázaro Cárdenas, Pátzcuaro, Uruapan, Los Reyes de Salgado, Arteaga, Ario de Rosales and Chinicuila. At the moment there is no report of damage.
In Colima, this incident was felt, slightly to moderately, in all the municipalities. No damage has been reported so far.
For their part, users of social networks reported that the earthquake was also felt in some municipalities in the state of Jaliscosuch as Guadalajara, Tlajomulco de Zúñiga and Ciudad Guzmán.
