New rendering technology uses Unreal Engine 5 to create live faces

We’ve already seen some pretty wild demonstrations of what Unreal Engine 5 is capable of, but one thing many of us are hoping for is that the graphics engine will allow smaller studios to create more realistic face animations that increase empathy.

One way for these studios to do that is to use the Ziva Dynamics ZRT Face Trainer, a tool module specifically designed for Unreal Engine 5 that, using AI among other things, can create pretty compelling 1: 1 renderings of faces using by Motion Capture.

The short clip below was recorded at 4K / 60 frames per second in Unreal Engine 5, although ZRT is not exclusive to that graphics engine. However, Ziva promises that even smaller studios with less capacity can create hyper-realistic characters with the help of AI and machine learning.

“The ZRT Face Trainer is built on a comprehensive library of 4D data and proprietary machine learning algorithms. Within 1 hour, your character mesh is injected with the game industry’s best tech.”
