Crown Princess Victoria as Maasai Queen!
Crown Princess Victoria in Maasai costume.
Next to Crown Prince Haakon in a matching outfit and with the chieftain’s cane in hand.
The most beautiful picture of the day!
After all, Victoria takes the custom where it comes and is not afraid of new challenges – or to test drive local outfits.
So when her and Haakon’s Kenyan hosts each held out a Masai poncho, the matter was settled.
Victoria stuck her head in and hung it over her pleated maxi skirt – and she also donned the traditional Maasai jewelry around her neck.
Then it was time for the facial ornament where the ribbons go in an arc from the forehead, along the nose and to the mouth. Still, a very above outfit! And Victoria may not look completely comfortable.
But she’s in good spirits – and the picture turned out so lovely. We have to thank Sven Gj. Gjeruldsen – the Norwegian court’s answer to our own Margareta Thorgren – who held the camera!
This is Victoria’s second day in Kenya and after the morning’s meetings, it was work out on the royal field after lunch.
Crown Princess Victoria in Kenya with Crown Prince Haakon
Victoria and Haakon visited the giant landfill in Kitengela outside Nairobi, together with Kenya’s Environment Minister Rosalinda Soipan Tuya.

This is to see how to tackle the problem of the enormous amounts of waste that accumulate there.
An extremely gloomy sight and Victoria quickly shifted to deep seriousness.
But there was also a small light in the darkness, even among the mountains of garbage in Kitengela. And part of that hopefulness Victoria put into words in one of her speeches:
– It has actually been a full 13 years since I was last here in the country, and in that time an enormous amount has happened.
