“Santiago and Esteban, a tale of gastronomy and traditions from Saltilla” It is a story that he wrote this year and that he left in the hands of the also cultural promoter Quitze Fernandezwho published it through the platform ammonite and now, with the support of Radio Universidad 104.1 FM, it will be broadcast this December 24 and 25 with the voices of teachers and colleagues from Salas.

“Once we saw that Quitzé made the publication, we asked him for permission to make a radio adaptation,” Silvia de la Cruz, producer of the radio story, commented to VANGUARDIA, “I spoke personally with the family, with Chuy Salas’s sister. It was one of the last things Chuy did and he gave us permission to adapt it. We made some modifications to take it to the radio”.

“Chuy was in love with Saltillo and each scene in the story portrays Saltillo. I would not dare to say that everything is there, because Saltillo is a big city, but there are really many things that, whether you are from here or not, you will discover. It portrays the people, the places, the streets, the houses, the food, of course, so it is a beautiful way of presenting our city”, she added.

The story revolves around two children, Santiago and Esteban —named after the two populations that formed the origin of the city, the Villa de Santiago de Saltillo and the town of San Esteban de la Nueva Tlaxcala—, who were born here but live in Mexico City and, after a visit to their grandparents, they will take them to discover the cultural wealth that the Coahuila capital houses.

“It is one of our interests to pay tribute to his work. Chuy Salas was an announcer for Radio University. He was collaborating with us for a long time and was a pioneer of one of the programs of the department of Cultural diffusion, he started it. So it is a tribute from Radio Universidad and we still have his voice on some bumpers, there we have his participation”, De la Cruz concluded, “the intention also and although the story has no Christmas motifs, we wanted to offer them as a present to his family in recognition on its way through Radio Universidad”.

The story will be broadcast on Saturday, December 24 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday 25 at 12:00 p.m. on the Radio Universidad signal, on 104.1 FM and on www.uadec.mx/radio. It features the voices of Francisco Damián Ramírez, Gael Eduardo Moreno, Miguel Barroso, Ludivina Ruiz Mendoza, Carlos Recio Dávila, Silvia Ruiz and Alfonso González.
