OPPO and Huawei are expected to announce new folding smartphones by the end of the year

Update (11/26/2021) – HA

New rumors coming out of a brief Twitter conversation between insiders Ross Young and Ice Universe give a glimpse of what the folding smartphone market could have in the near future. First, Ice Universe pointed out that the market was about to see a new cell phone of the type that will be “very strong”.

In response, Ross Young fired that new folding models from OPPO and Huawei will be announced by the end of the year.

It is worth noting that Huawei has already released two generations of its folding devices, but OPPO has not yet — although some patents have suggested investment in this sector.

Ross Young also continued the thread saying that the device from Huawei will work in a shell shape, while OPPO’s can be in a shell and in a more horizontal format, tablet, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold.

Like Huawei, Samsung and Xiaomi, OPPO has also been investing more and more in the foldable smartphone segment and, despite not having a commercial product yet, the company has registered several patents.

This week, 91Mobiles staff discovered another Chinese record. Requested by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the patent describes a collapsible smartphone, but it can have your secondary screen detached from the body of the device.

The idea is similar to what LG has sold in the past, with the second display often called a “slave”. The patent description also brings important information: the secondary display connects to the smartphone via Bluetooth.

The available documentation evidences that this smartphone should function like a normal device. In other words, OPPO must not sell it with accessories – pen and keyboard – or any other purpose.

The smartphone is designed to have a kind of support for the second display to be attached.

Other details include the presence of a USB-C port and speaker grill on the bottom. The rear has two cameras and the power and volume buttons are on the right side.

The secondary monitor must have its own battery and even storage.

Remember that we are talking about a patent. So, there are still no signs that this smartphone will ever be released.
