Henrike Brandstötter, NEOS member of the National Council, was a guest on “Vorarlberg LIVE” on Thursday.
Henrike Brandstötter has been a member of the National Council since 2019. Born in Salzburg, she deals with the topics of equal treatment and the media for Neos, among other things. Last year 29 women were killed, this year there were already 28 femicides. “Austria has a problem when it comes to violence against women,” says Brandstötter on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25th on Vorarlberg LIVE.
Henrike Brandstötter (NEOS) believes that the budget has only partially achieved equality for women. She supported the increase in the budget for protection against violence, in view of “28 femicides this year”. But she misses significant steps towards achieving real gender equality, such as a legal right to childcare, more flexible working hours, measures to combat poverty in old age and the promotion of fathers’ participation in child-rearing.
The whole broadcast:
A recent parliamentary question from women’s spokeswoman Brandstötter to Interior Minister Karner revealed that the number of rapes in Austria rose by 30 percentage points between 2017 and 2021. “In 2021 alone there was a total of 1,060 rapes, and in a quarter of the cases the victim was only between 14 and 17 years old! For me, this is a clear sign that we have to start with the protection of children, with information, education and self-empowerment. We must actively combat antiquated images of women and no longer accept them in the education system, at the regulars’ table and in the workplace, let alone actively convey them.
The broadcast “Vorarlberg LIVE” is a cooperation between VOL.AT, VN.at, Ländle TV and VOL.AT TV and is broadcast from Monday to Friday from 5 p.m. There’s more here.
