Pixel 6: rumors, release date, price, characteristics … we know (almost) everything about the Google camera phone

The Pixel 6 are coming. While Google has set its conference for October 19, 2021 at 7 p.m. (French time), new leaks come to tell us a little more about these two future smartphones.

The Pixel 6 no longer have any secrets. A few days before the official presentation mobile, a new leak unveils all the technical characteristics of the next two phones from Google.

The repair manual for both phones was made available on Reddit, while a British reseller has outright published the presentation sheet of the mobiles. This failure comes from Carphone Warehouse, which accidentally uploaded the two web pages before removing them. But the pages of Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro can still be viewed on the Internet Archive.

From the design of the mobiles to the chip that will animate the phones, we tell you everything about the successors of the Pixel 5 (which, incidentally, can be found in our guide to buying the best 2021 mobiles).

What design for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro?

The look of the new mobiles is no longer even a secret, since Google’s Twitter account released a promotional image for the new phones on August 2, 2021.

These new phones will therefore look nothing like their predecessors. Google has opted for an atypical design with a prominent photo island, which runs the entire width of the phone.

The front of the phone is much more classic. The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro will have a large screen that covers the entire front of the mobile. The fingerprint sensor will be located under the screen a priori, and the front photo module in a bubble at the top of the screen. On the promotional image shared by Google on October 5, we can also see that the screen is slightly curved at the edges.

The site dedicated to the event of the 19 also provides an overview of “Material You”, the new aesthetic philosophy of Google. Both phones are expected to remain massive, with 6.4- and 6.7-inch screens for the 6 and 6 Pro respectively.

Famous journalist Evan Blass also shared many promotional photos of the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. You can see mobiles from every angle.

In photos published on October 12, we can also see the phones in profile and better appreciate the protuberance of their photo “bands” on the back. This choice of atypical design makes it possible to have a stable phone when it is placed on a table, but raises the question of the balance of the weights once in hand.

What will the technical characteristics of the Pixel 6 be?

The site The Verge was able to discuss with Rick Osterloh, the product manager at Google, and got a lot of information on the technical sheet of these Pixel 6. Sources from the XDA Developers site complete the picture

Screen

Pixels 6 and 6 Pro will both feature an OLED display, with a high refresh rate (90 and 120 Hz respectively). This will allow better fluidity on display. According to the data sheet uploaded by Carphone Warehouse, phones can also lower the refresh rate (up to 10 Hz for the Pro model) to save battery. This is the same technology found on the iPhone 13 Pro.

The screen of both phones will be protected by a latest generation Gorilla Glass pane which should even better protect the mobile against scratches.

Connectivity

Not only will the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro be compatible with 5G, but they will also include an ultra wideband chip, like the most recent iPhones. This will significantly improve indoor location, probably to compete with AirTags.

Battery and recharging

With batteries of 4614 mA h and 5000 mA h for the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro respectively, Google is playing the card of autonomy. As long as the phones are well optimized, the new Pixels should enjoy quite decent endurance.

The mobiles will be delivered with a 30 watt charger which will save 50% of the battery in 30 minutes. They will also be able to charge wirelessly around 20 watts. Google also promises an “ultra energy saving” mode which promises to make your battery last 48 hours.

Storage

With 128GB of minimum storage, the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro should offer enough space to store a good chunk of your digital life. In addition, the mobiles are integrated into the Google cloud which offers additional space. For the most demanding, the 512 GB of the Pixel 6 pro should offer more than enough space.

Mobile and graphic chip

The most interesting in this technical sheet is undoubtedly the Google Tensor chip. For the first time, Google will embed an internally designed chip in its smartphones. This could further improve photo quality and make software tracking easier. This component, tailored for AI, will also help you ” to do things like translate messages and videos without internet According to Google.

The graphics chip (the Mali G-78) is the same as that of the Galaxy S21, which should ensure good performance in the game.

Photo

It is a question of using this famous Tensor chip to reduce camera shake in photos, or to apply HDR processing to a video in 4K at 30 FPS. The Pixels have a reputation to defend on the photo front, and it seems that Google has further refined its processing algorithms in addition to providing its smartphones with a wide selection of photo modules.

Youtuber Brandon Lee, who runs the This is Tech Today channel, claims to have got his hands on several photos and videos taken with the Pixel 6 Pro. These appear clean, precise and correctly contrasted.

The Carphone Warehouse Leak also lets know that the ultra wide-angle of the Pixel 6 Pro will cover an angle of view of 94 °. Perfect for group photos.

The Pixel 6’s 50-megapixel photo sensor will be larger than that of the Pixel 5, which will catch more light. Many software features will also improve the experience, such as the Magic Eraser which will remove unwanted elements from a photo easily. Portrait mode has also been reworked to better bring out subjects with better color rendering.

Software

Obviously, the Pixel 6 will arrive with Android 12 installed natively. Google also promises ” at least 5 years »Tracking software for their phones.

What is the release date for the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro?

If Google has finally communicated on the date of presentation of the Pixels, which will be October 19, 2021 at 7 p.m. (French time), we do not yet know when the phones will be commercially available. According to Jon Prosser, the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are expected to hit store shelves on October 28.

What will the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro cost?

YouTuber Brandon Lee, of the channel This is Tech Today, claims that one of the versions of the Pixel 6 will be sold for 649 euros. This price seems to have been confirmed by the German dealer Saturn who published an ad listing the Pixel 6 at this price. Regarding the Pixel Pixel 6 Pro, a variation of the mobile will be sold for 899 euros. The information comes from the site 9to5Google. However, we do not know if these prices are the basic ones, or those of versions with more storage.

These prices well below 1000 euros – a threshold frequently reached by high-end smartphones – place the Pixels 6 in an interesting price segment.
