After crossing the province of Misiones and crossing the border through the Tancredo Neves international bridge that joins Argentina and Brazil, the elephants Pocha and Guillermina continued on their way to Mato Grosso where they are already going through the adaptation process. They were transferred from Mendoza on a trip that lasted 5 days.
“In Foz do Iguaçu we had, once again, an incredible reception from various bodies that spared no effort to ensure that the caravan passed through the Argentina/Brazil border quickly and efficiently,” they indicated.
Through a post on social networks, they gave details of Pocha and Guillermina’s trip and confirmed that mother and daughter are already in their new home, the Brazilian Elephant Sanctuary (SEB). They commented that since they arrived they are living new experiences at every moment and discovering a wonderful new world.
“Until we arrived at SEB we have come a long way. A transfer, mainly a double rescue, requires complex logistics and full of details. The transfer of Pocha and Guillermina was a great success and we owe it to the many people who worked so hard hard to ensure the safety and well-being of both.
“Today we want to thank all the institutions and special people in Brazil who played a key role in this transfer. Many thanks to the teams from Ibama Brasília, Ibama Mato Grosso, Secretary of the Environment of the State of Mato Grosso, Ministry of Agriculture , Livestock and Supply, and the Mato Grosso Agricultural Defense Institute,” they noted.
This elephant rescue work is not over yet because it is expected that Guillermina’s father and another elephant from the same family can be transferred to the conservation center, although this journey does not yet have a completion date.
