Pokémon Scarlet and Violet smash a Nintendo record

Available for only a few days, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have exploded a Nintendo record. Both versions of Pokémon have sold over 10 million copies. A Nintendo game has never sold so well.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have been under fire from critics since their November 18 release. The ninth generation of Pokémon still managed to break a record. Indeed, Pokémon Scarlet and Purple sold for more than 10 million copies in just three days. Of these 10 million copies, 4.05 million copies were sold in Japan.

The Japanese firm has announced that it is Nintendo’s best-selling game in three days after his release. This is an exceptional record for the franchise. This does not prevent criticism about Pokémon Scarlet and Purple from coming from all sides. Players had higher expectations of what both versions offer.

Pokémon Scarlet/Purple set to become one of Nintendo’s best-selling games of all time?

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet collect records despite criticism. Besides being the best launch for a Nintendo game, the ninth generation of Pokémon is also biggest launch for a console exclusive (all platforms combined).

Even though the Switch is struggling to run Pokémon Scarlet and Purple properly, this is the first time a Nintendo Switch game has sold so well in three days. Yet, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is also officially the lowest-rated game in the franchise. Players criticize in particular its dated graphics and performance issues.

This launch does not mean that Pokémon Scarlet/Purple will become the Switch’s best-selling game. To compare, Pokémon Sword/Shield is the fifth best-selling game on the Switch. It has sold 25.37 million copies since its release in 2019. It is also the second best-selling Pokémon behind Pokémon Red / Blue which has sold 31 million copies. We will therefore have to see if Pokémon Scarlet / Violet continues this momentum, especially as the end of the year holidays approach.
