Police: Attacked a cyclist on the RVR bike path in Recklinghausen

A cyclist was attacked and robbed on a RVR cycle and hiking trail in Recklinghausen. The perpetrators fled through the bushes.

Two men armed with a knife robbed a cyclist in Recklinghausen on Wednesday. The woman was on the “Allee des Wandels” cycle path in the Friedrich-Ebert-Straße area when the perpetrators suddenly jumped out of the bushes.

The men blocked the woman, who was traveling with a bicycle and a trailer, from driving around 2:45 p.m., the police said. Then they stole the woman’s backpack, which contained, among other things, a wallet, cash, a debit card and identity papers.

One of the two men had a knife with a wide blade in his hand, both robbers were masked with a scarf on their faces, the police reported. The perpetrators fled through the bushes, the police said.

Both perpetrators are male and are estimated by the robbery victim to be in their early to mid-30s, the police reported.

Police are also looking for witnesses

The police are also hoping for witnesses. Relevant information is requested to the Recklinghausen police, telephone number 0800/2361-111. The police could not answer the question to what extent similar acts had already occurred on the cycle path in the past.

The “Avenue of Change” path is part of the cycle and hiking trail network of the Regionalverband Ruhr (RVR). It connects the district of Westerholt and the Hoheward landscape park on the city limits of Herten over a distance of 9.5 kilometers on a former railway line.
