“Off to the new porn era!” is the title of the latest application the jusos the SPD Berlin center. There they have concrete, sometimes unconventional demands on their party and the government. It is about public-law pornography, education, forced and child labor as well as racism and sexism in industry.

At the beginning of your application, the relevance of the topic is pointed out. Around the world, around 100 billion pieces of porn are downloaded from a single platform alone, and there are also around 100 million consumers worldwide, most of whom are male and under 35 years old.

Child Abuse by Unregulated Porn Sites

However, there are a few problems with the industry’s monopoly on power by companies such as Mindgeek, which owns “Pornhub” and “YouPorn”, among others. “Frequently sexist and racist stereotypes” are conveyed in porn, and the working conditions are not understandable.

And the Jusos also set an example.

In the application write:

“Reports such as ‘The Children of Pornhub’ clearly show how the porn industry has failed to address the systematic sexual abuse of minors and thus encouraged abuse and exploitation. The report revealed that countless youth and young women were forced to have sex and the content was published against their will.”

There is now an annual transparency report and a number of videos have been deleted, but the transparency and moderation of the platform are absolutely insufficient. Companies like Mindgeek are therefore not only unable to take action against cases of abuse, but even partially build their company on it.

“They build entire corporate structures on illegality and opacity.”

In the application, the Jusos write verbatim: “They build entire corporate structures on illegality and opacity.”

First demands: pornography in the federal government and in the curriculum

The Jusos therefore insist on a federal office for pornography, which takes care of information and advice, acts as a control body and complaints office and carries out scientific studies.

In addition, such a position should offer support for performers. On top of that, the SPD youth calls on their party to advocate for the regulation of content on porn sites. Here they suggest, for example, “inserting feminist, educational and addiction-preventive clips before the pornographic content”. In addition, there must be an FSK classification.

In addition, the Young Socialists want the topic of pornography to be firmly integrated into biology lessons and for the teaching staff to be offered appropriate further training. The reason is the mostly problematic effect of unfiltered pornography on young people. Sex in porn often seems “like a performance or competitive sport”. There is no such thing as failure, trying things out and communication. This leads to “completely unrealistic ideas” that could also have a lasting effect on the image of man.

ÖRR is supposed to buy porn and make it available

The Jusos also came up with a somewhat curious demand: public pornography, financed by the GEZ. To this they wrote:

“Since free pornography is consumed primarily on the Internet, feminist porn must also be available free of charge, permanently and easily. […] In addition, we demand that the online media libraries of the public broadcasters buy appropriate anti-racist and feminist pornography and make it available or retrievable.”

In addition to aspects such as diversity and equality, the topics of prevention, communication and fair working conditions and payment are also important. A good example is Sweden, which produced state-run feminist and anti-racist porn as early as 2009. In Germany there has also been feminist pornography, but it usually costs more than ten euros a month.

Devastating criticism on Twitter

The demand was met with criticism and laughter on social networks. Many people pointed out that the GEZ contributions were already too high and that there was no shortage of free pornography. The application would also show “that the license fee must be abolished and a usage-based payment system introduced for it,” someone wrote Twitter.

In addition, the young socialists failed completely in setting priorities, is one of the allegations. In times of war, famine, energy and climate crisis, such demands are out of place.
