Jeffrey Lamar Williams (30), known as the rapper Young Thug, is one of 28 people who were arrested in Georgia on Monday.
The people are accused of having planned to break with the state law for organized crime and gang activity, according to the prison documents.
The Atlanta rapper was arrested at his home before being sent to Fulton County Jail.
Attached to the infamous gang
Williams is allegedly one of three founders of the criminal gang the Yong Slime Life, which was started in 2012, the indictment states. They are said to be affiliated with the infamous Bloods gang, US media are informed by officials.
The charges are aimed at protecting and strengthening the company’s reputation, power and territory through acts such as extortion, including murder, assault and threats of violence.
The conspiracy charge dates back to 2013 and gang activity in 2018, according to prison documents.
Denies criminal guilt
Williams’ lawyer, Brian Steele, told local media that his client has not committed any crime and that he will fight to cleanse him. The rapper will appear in court on Tuesday.
Sergio Kitchens (28), known as the rapper Gunna, was also charged on Monday with planning to break the law for organized crime. It is currently unclear whether Gunna has been arrested.
Gunna is signed to Young Thug’s record label “YSL”, which stands for Young Stoner Life Records. The two rappers come from the same place and are close friends, and often appear in each other’s songs.
