After the already confirmed commitment of Fábio Vieira (22) from FC Porto, Arsenal FC will apparently add another attacking streak in the near future. According to Spanish ‘Goal.com’ journalist Rubén Uría, the Gunners are close to signing Raphinha. The transfer could officially take place this week.
Leeds United are demanding a €50m fee for the Brazilian winger. And Arsenal are apparently willing to pay them – unlike FC Barcelona. The Catalans have been in agreement with Raphinha for some time. Nevertheless, there will apparently not be a transfer of the 25-year-old to Barça.
Raphinha loses patience
According to the report, Barcelona were hoping for Leeds to progress to the second division. Then an exit clause in Raphinha’s contract of 25 million euros would take effect. That would have been more manageable for the financially troubled Catalans.
However, with Leeds continuing to play first-class, Barça cannot yet raise the 50 million that is now necessary. The negotiations between the English and Catalans have therefore been on hold for some time. “They have disappeared”Uría even quotes a source from the Leeds environment.
According to the report, Raphinha has lost interest in waiting for Barça. Arsenal are now benefiting from this. Last season, the nine-time Brazil international was one of the brightest players in coach Jesse Marsch’s side, with 11 goals and three assists in 35 Premier League games.
