In 2019, actress Dakota Johnson (33) caused a storm in the media after a clip from her interview with talk show host Ellen DeGeneres (64) went viral.
Now, only after “the Ellen DeGeneres Show” went off the air, Johnson made a new jab at DeGeneres in a recent interview with “The Drew Barrymore Show”, writes Cosmopolitan.
When the young actress talked about her neighbors, talk show host Jimmy Kimmel and his wife, she included what was probably a jab at DeGeneres.
– They are great neighbors, except that they have a lot of parties and don’t invite me, Johnson said to the host, Drew Barrymore with a sly smile.
Barrymore immediately followed up with her own reference to the scandalous “Ellen” interview:
– Do you think so? Because, you know, people have gotten in trouble for claiming they weren’t invited to your parties,” Barrymore said.
To this Johnson replied with a sudden laugh and an approving look, and was met with praise for the jab from Barrymore.
Strike back at Ellen
In the infamous interview, DeGeneres chastises the “Fifty Shades of Grey” star for forgetting to invite her to her 30th birthday party. To this, Johnson comes up with a quick and brutal reply where she claims that DeGeneres was invited, and accuses the talk show host of lying.
– The last time I was a guest here last year, you gave me a lot of crap for not inviting you when I didn’t even know you would be invited. I didn’t even think you liked me, Johnson told DeGeneres on “the Ellen Show” in 2019.
The interview became very tense as the host and the actor continued their discussion, and Johnson insisted that DeGeneres did not appear at the birthday party despite being invited.
DeGeneres is known as one of America’s biggest talk show hosts and since 2003 has led the well-known “the Ellen DeGeneres Show”. The talk show, like DeGeneres, was long known for its positive and playful tone, but during the program’s last year, the program’s good reputation came to an end.
The interview with Johnson is just one of many controversies DeGeneres and “the Ellen Show” have faced in recent years.
In 2020, several employees of the “Ellen Show” came forward in the media with a series of serious accusations against DeGeneres where they claimed that they had, among other things, experienced racism, fear and threats in the workplace.
As a result, Warner Bros, who produced the talk show, chose to hire an outside company to conduct an investigation into the working environment in the workplace. DeGeneres herself spoke out about the allegations in a video on Instagram in 2020.
In May 2022, the talk show host said goodbye to the program after 19 seasons. However, during DeGeneres’ closing speech on the show’s final episode, there was no mention of the controversies.
