Queen Margrethe has tested positive for covid-19, the Danish court announces on Instagram. The Queen has been taken to hospital.

“Her Majesty the Queen has tested positive for covid-19 last night. She is currently at Fredensborg Castle. The Queen’s activities this week have therefore been cancelled,” they write in a statement on Instagram.

Queen Margrethe was in London as recently as Monday for Queen Elizabeth’s funeral. She sat right next to King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia, far forward and closest to the coffin. Thus, there is a great risk that she may have infected the king, but so far it is not clear if that is the case or not.

“Friday’s evening party at Christiansborg Castle, where the members of parliament, the Danish Parliament and the European Parliament will be present, will be held as planned. The Crown Princess couple will then be the hosts,” it says further on Instagram.

More than 2,000 people attended Monday’s lavish funeral at Westminster Abbey, ranging from royalty to heads of state.

Once inside the church, Queen Margrethe sat next to the Swedish royal couple and opposite the British royal family with King Charles. the Danish and Swedish royal families were allowed to sit so close to the coffin was decided based on how many years they had sat on the throne.

King Carl Gustaf is married to Queen Elizabeth. He was of course saddened when the news of her death came just over two weeks ago.

“It is with sadness that my family and I have today received the news that my dear relative, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, has passed away“, he wrote at the time.
