On the first two days of the tournament, the favorites showed no weaknesses. The biggest surprise on today’s third day of play, however, was Argentina’s game against Saudi Arabia. The gauchos wanted to emphasize their role as favorites from the start and took the lead early on with a penalty kick from national hero Lionel Messi (10′).
Three more goals followed, but all of them were denied recognition due to some very narrow offside positions. The South Americans failed to put the lid on it, with some 100% chances to score – and got the bitter reward in the second half.
First half hui, second ugh
The equalizer from Saleh Al-Shehri (48th) was already enthusiastically celebrated by the supporters in green. After Salem Al-Dawsari’s 2-1 lead (53′), all dams broke at the Lusail Iconic Stadium.
Role as favorites or not, in the end there is a victory for the Saudis that is not even undeserved. Argentina had the best chances, especially in the first round, leveraging the extremely high, courageous defense chain in rows with fantastic through passes.
However, the oppressive superiority could not be used. For their part, the team from the Arabian Peninsula earned their sensational success with a spirited and courageous performance.
🛎 Off.🛑 Goose bumps.
