After eleven years at Leicester City Kasper Schmeichel is over, the Danish goalkeeper is drawn to France to OGC Nice. The Dane signed for his new employer FT-Information until 2025. A transfer fee of one million euros plus bonuses will flow.
The 35-year-old comes as a replacement for Walter Benítez (29), who moved to PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie. In addition to Schmeichel, Yann Sommer (33/Gladbach) was also a long-time candidate for the Côte d’Azur club’s successor, but the Swiss ended negotiations with the French club.
Schmeichel can look back on a very successful time in England. He won the Premier League championship with Leicester in 2016, crowning his outstanding achievements. In recent seasons, too, he acted as an important backbone and captain for the Premier League club.
