In a tense and at times chaotic climate, María Eugenia Vidal, Leandro Santoro, Javier Milei and Myriam Bregman starred in the first debate ahead of the legislative elections in November. Candidates for deputy for the city of Buenos Aires began with a one-minute free introduction.
The candidate of the Frente de Todos, Leando Santoro, introduced himself as a political scientist and the father of two girls. “I believe in an inclusive and developed Argentina, I do not believe in absolute truths or in those who know them all”, summarized.
“I want to propose to everyone that they accompany the request to Alberto Fernández so that he asks Aníbal Fernández to resign”, was the first proposal of María Eugenia Vidal, who opened her speech with a strong criticism of the Government, as a result of the scandal over the tweet against the cartoonist Nik.
To its turn, mercy He defined himself as a libertarian liberal and said that he “shouts a lot” because he is outraged with the “political caste.” “I am dangerous for the political caste because the fuck is over with me”he lunged. Meanwhile, the leader of the Left Front, Myriam Bregman, pointed out that the campaign was “empty of proposals.”
During the first segment, dedicated to institutional quality, Vidal began by highlighting the importance of alternation and aimed against the official social leader Emilio Pérsico, who had asked that Kirchnerism remain in power for 20 years.
For his part, Santoro criticized the inaction of the Buenos Aires government in the face of the disappearance of the police Arshak Karhanyan. Vidal regretted that the uniformed man’s mother had been summoned to the debate to be used politically by the Frente de Todos.
However, the most tense moment of the debate came during one of the crossovers between Bregman and Milei. “This man here started by being educated, but in the acts he tells us shitty left-handers, he surrounds himself with a lot of defenders of the genocide, and says ‘shitty lefties, they are going to run’, and as soon as the debate begins, he begins with the same attack. It is the same thing that they told us during the dictatorship ”.
“Put chains on me so they are more comfortable”, was the ironic response of the libertarian who was later warned by the drivers that his microphone would be silenced if he did not respect the rules.
When talking about the economy, Santoro pointed out that the most important problems facing the country are inflation and the drop in economic activity. In that sense, he explained that to a large extent these problems are due to the lack of dollars and that this situation was aggravated by the “96 billion dollars” of debt that Mauricio Macri took.
“Again the ‘ah, but Macri'”Vidal answered and assured that “the debt is the daughter of the deficit” left by the government of Cristina Kirchner. He also accused Alberto Fernández of having taken on 30 billion dollars in debt during his two years in office.
The most interesting moment of the night was the one of the hand-to-hand questions. By lottery, the first was Vidal, who chose Santoro as his counterpart. “Doesn’t Alberto have to ask Aníbal Fernández to resign?” He insisted in relation to the scandal over the tweet to the cartoonist Nik.
The candidate of the Frente de Todos replied that the Minister of Security had made a mistake but that the discussion on his eventual resignation had to be given “within his space.” As a counterattack, he stated that several members of Juntos por el Cambio, such as Vidal and Diego Santilli, were victims of an espionage operation ordered by Mauricio Macri. “That is more serious than a wrong tweet”, said.
“It was not a wrong tweet,” Vidal replied about Aníbal Fernández and explained that as the complainant he is aware of the investigation of the cause for espionage and that in the same There are no elements that point against Macri as responsible.
When it was Santoro’s turn, he asked how they thought that in four years 44 billion dollars could be returned, in relation to the maturities of 2020, 2021 and 2022.
“Two out of every three dollars went to pay off previous debts. Debt is not the daughter of flight but of deficit “Vidal replied and assured that if they had won they would have had greater access to credit to refinance the debt.
However, one of the most confusing moments occurred when it was Milei’s turn. The libertarian made an interpretation of the regulation that dislodged the drivers and decided not to ask his question to any candidate but to the people.
“I don’t argue with the breed. Does anyone want to continue with this caste model? ”He said looking at the camera.
During the block of debate of applicants dedicated to “Health policy in pandemic”, Santoro affirmed that the Government of Alberto Fernández “made an enormous effort to guarantee” the care of the health system that “had destroyed the macrismo.”
“Do you remember any public policy of the City to help people in the pandemic?”, asked the candidate of the FdT.
For his part, Vidal countered that in the city of Buenos Aires shifts were given to get vaccinated and in the national government “officials and militants were vaccinated before.”
“In the City we won 45 days of classes for going to the Supreme Court; In the national government there was a Minister of Education and a President who campaigned for the closure of schools, ”he said in reference to Nicolás Trotta and President Fernández, respectively.
Meanwhile, Milei stated that “if Argentina had done things like a mediocre country, instead of 117 thousand dead it would have had 25 thousand”, but regretted that “the caste did not want to lose its privileges.”
“The strategy that we all knew we had to carry out, in the first stage, was that of massive tests, but This government, for not stopping stealing, decided to condemn thousands of Argentines to death”, Denounced the libertarian leader.
