Sega unveils results in line with expectations

Contrasting start to the fiscal year for Sega Sammy, whose turnover rose by 11% to reach 484 million euros but whose operating profit slipped by 28% and posted a modest 20.3 million euros. The net profit of 23.1 million euros is mainly the consequence of a foreign exchange gain recognized thanks to the current weakness of the yen.

Putting aside arcade, animation, toys, pachinko/pachislot and tourism to focus on Sega, the video game generated a turnover of 254 million euros and an operating profit of 38 .8 million euros over the quarter. A result that management considers solid, although slightly below expectations.

Rather calm, Sega’s spring saw the releases of Sonic Origins, Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix+ on PC and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim on Switch. Enough to sell 5.14 million games (against 6.58 million a year earlier). In the free-to-play department, Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage remains the most successful title ahead of Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis, which is also progressing.

The fiscal year will be able to count on the releases of Two Point Campus, Soul Hackers 2, Company of Heroes 3, Endless Dungeon, Sonic Frontiers or many Persona ports. Sega aims to sell 34.25 million games over the entire financial year, against 27.20 million games for the previous fiscal year.
