Shakira offered a revealing interview to ELLE magazine, the first after her media separation from Gerard Piqué in which she was not only honest about her feelings as a woman due to the breakup with the footballer, but also talked about her children and how they have been affected for all this media process.
“It has been difficult not only for me, but also for my children. Incredibly difficult. I have paparazzi camping out in front of my house, 24/7. And there is no place where I can hide from them with my children, except in my own house. You know, we can’t take a walk in the park like a normal family or go get ice cream or do any activity without the photographers following us.”revealed.
“So it’s difficult. And I have tried to hide the situation in front of my children. I try to protect them, because that is my priority in life. But then at school, they hear things from their friends or they come across unpleasant news on the internet, and it just gets to them, you know?”, he added. She was also asked about how she has handled this difficult time with her children.
“I try to hide the situation from them as much as I can. It is really upsetting for two children who are trying to process the separation from their parents (…) The treatment of the press has been very difficult and very invasive for my children. They don’t deserve to feel watched every second, photographed at school or chased by paparazzi. They deserve a normal life.”said.
“Regardless of how things turned out or how Gerard and I felt as ex-partners, he is the father of my children. We have a job to do for these two amazing kids, and I have faith that we will find out what is best for their future, their own dreams in life, and what is the fair solution for everyone. And I hope and I would appreciate if they gave us the space to do it in private, “ finished about it.
