Princess Sofia took her eldest son with her on the big day.
It’s not too often that we get a glimpse of Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia’s sons.
But on Sunday, the prince couple’s eldest son, six-year-old Prince Alexander, unexpectedly appeared in the Castle Church together with Princess Sofia – and what a good reason was behind the royal visit.
The royal family’s support for Ukraine
At the end of February this year, Russia invaded neighboring Ukraine and the relentless war has affected millions of people.
The king early expressed his support for Ukraine and condemned the invasion in a speech. Princess Madeleine has also expressed her sadness over the situation.
Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia have also shown their support. Among other things, they have visited Nynäshamn and talked to authorities and volunteers who work to receive Ukrainian refugees.
Princess Sofia continues to show her support
On Sunday, Sofia and Prince Alexander, 6, attended a service in the Castle Church. However, it was not an ordinary service.
– It was a Ukrainian service. The king has leased the castle church to Ukrainians for services during the spring, Margaretha Thorgren, the court’s press manager, explains to Svensk Damtidning.
Sofia wanted to bring her eldest son with her on this important day – and of course it was solemn for Alexander to visit the Castle Church and be part of the royal spotlight.
The king’s words provoke strong reactions – everyone says the same thing
One of the participants in the service has shared a picture of Sofia and Alexander on Instagram.
“Today I and @official_sofiia had the honor to perform for Princess Sofia of Sweden in the Castle Church in Stockholm. Our Greek Catholic Church in Stockholm @ ugcc.stockholm prayed to the Virgin and for peace in Ukraine,” she writes under the picture and continues:
“It was very exciting and emotional! In such a difficult time, it is very important to feel support, and the support from Sweden is really huge, for which we are very grateful!”
