Spotify is testing vertical videos to be like … TikTok

Spotify regularly tests new functions and product consultant Chris Messina has discovered in a TestFlight version of the app (beta version for iOS) a new icon called Discover. Using this icon, he accesses a stream of short videos in vertical format, similar to what TikTok currently offers. User can indicate likes a video or skip to the next video. You can move between videos by swiping up or down.
This stream could take advantage of the Canvas format, which allows artists to attach a short video to their songs, which is played on a loop.

Also to discover in video:

Spotify confirmed to our colleagues of TechCrunch that they were in the process of testing this function, without specifying whether it would be available to users. A spokesperson said:

“At Spotify, we regularly run a number of tests to improve our user experience. Some of these tests end up paving the way for our broader user experience and others are only for important learning. We have no further news to share at this time. “

TikTok’s video format has been adopted by many other platforms: Instagram (Reels), Snapchat (Spotlight), YouTube (Shorts), and Netflix (Fast Laughs). We will have to wait to see if Spotify follows suit.
