Tesla would consider automotive simulation in its electric cars

The integration of video games from the Steam catalog into Teslas is long overdue, but Elon Musk wants to be reassuring on this subject. At the same time, the American electric car manufacturer is recreating San Francisco thanks to the 3D engine Unreal Engine. What to offer a car simulation game?

Tesla Model S during its announcement in updated version

At the start of 2022, Elon Musk announced on his Twitter account the integration of video games from the Steam catalog into the brand’s electric cars. This summer, the billionaire promised a demonstration of Steam in a Tesla car from August. This demonstration did not take place, but the boss of Tesla again addressed the subject on his Twitter account.

Steam in Teslas: you have to wait

Indeed, througha tweet dated September 16, 2022, Elon Musk informed that he was going to Palo Alto in order to try the integration of Steam within Tesla cars. Since then, it’s been dead calm, and we still haven’t seen any visuals, either photos or videos of Steam running on a car from the brand.

We must therefore now be patient, while the boss of Tesla made us salivate at the start of the year, by announcing that very greedy titles, like Cyberpunk 2077 or The Witcher 3, could be able to turn on the screen center of the car. All thanks to the new AMD Ryzen chip present since this year.

With its 10 teraflops, it is clear that the new chip has enough power to offer more advanced games than those currently integrated into electric cars under the name Tesla Arcade. For comparison, the Xbox Series X announces 12 teraflops against 10 teraflops for the Playstation 5. We are then dealing with a real console integrated in a car.

Tesla’s car simulation

According to information revealed by Electrek, Tesla would be modeling the city of San Francisco, with exceptional image quality. This would be made possible by using the Unreal Engine 3D engine in version 5. Moreover, in the summer of 2021, during its AI Day, Tesla had shown a simulation of its autonomous driving functionality Autopilot running under Unreal Engine with a rendering close to photorealism as can be seen in the video below.

The objective of this simulation is to better understand the behavior of the Autopilot and to improve its behavior in different situations.

Tesla: a video game development studio?

What if Tesla started developing its own games? This is already more or less the case with existing game ports on Tesla Arcade. But it is possible that the American manufacturer will go a little further.

Indeed, Elon Musk would think about making this simulation public, in order to allow the creation of video games, without starting from scratch. If GTA VI were to take place in San Francisco instead of Miami, Tesla could, for example, have helped Rockstar Games to release its future opus more quickly.

Tesla cars will become game consoles thanks to Steam

Elon Musk promises a demonstration of Steam built into Tesla cars as early as next month. Enough to show the technological superiority of its platform.
