When show titan Thomas Gottschalk (72) wasn’t there yet, YOU were already there: excavators and spectacular bets with the PS monsters on “Wetten, dass ..?”
But what happened on Saturday evening in the 217th edition of the cult show has never happened before. 41 years after the broadcast started (1981 still with show inventor Frank Elstner, 80) and 39 years after the first excavator bet, a woman took a seat at the wheel of the tracked vehicle for the first time.
The Austrian Sandra Hasenauer (30) from Steyrtal faced the excavator spectacle. As a truck driver, the mother of a daughter (4) has been working with heavy equipment in her father’s earthmoving company for many years. Before appearing in front of an audience of millions, she says: “I’m looking forward to the challenge. I submitted the idea four months ago.”
When the first excavators rolled on the Saturday night show, climbed walls, played ping-pong or opened beer bottles, Sandra was either not yet born or was sitting in front of the television with her parents as a child.
In March she took over her father’s earthmoving company and has been training diligently for the 40th excavator bet ever since. What it looked like remained a top secret until the show started. In the show then amazed in the audience. Sandra smashed raw eggs with the one-ton excavator shovel.
The candidate about her preparation: “The bet is very filigree and at the same time I have to keep the excavator firmly under control.” Around 600 eggs are said to have broken during the rehearsals beforehand.
Incidentally, the talent does not only come from the father: “Even as a little girl I sat in the driver’s cab. My mother can also drive trucks and excavators.”
Funny: In the Friedrichshafen exhibition hall, she also explained why her excavator shovel had its own comic name: “I call it ‘Obelix’.” Named after a good friend.
In the live show, the eggs went well for the excavator queen from Austria. She won her bet spectacularly. It was well received by the audience, even if it wasn’t quite enough to win against the later betting king Marten Reiß (41) with his fingerprint bet (BILD reported). Second place for Sandra Hasenauer. She after the show: “I’m satisfied with the performance.”
