The agreement that limits the increase in medicines was extended

The Minister of Economy, Serge Massaand the head of Health, Carla Vizzetti, held a meeting with representatives of the pharmaceutical industry. There they agreed to extend for 60 days, that is, until November 18, the agreement that keeps the price of medicines below inflation.

According to Ambit, the chief of staff of the Ministry of Health, Sonia Tarragonaexplained: “The agreement has been working well, this month medicines were almost three points below inflation, and they are also below accumulated and year-on-year inflation.”

Also present at the meeting was the Secretary of Commerce, Matias Tombolini, who highlighted the “coordinated work” between the State and the private sector. At the same time, he stressed that “the government’s objective is to continue providing predictability and guaranteeing accessible drug prices for the entire population.”

The agreed agreement contemplates a maximum increase for the next 60 days of up to 1 point below the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of the previous month for all medicines that are marketed through pharmacies.

In this sense, to define the price of medicines, August 30, 2022 will be taken as the baseline, while the Commerce secretary will control the evolution of prices in a joint work with the Ministry of Health.
