Battlefield 2042 has received very harsh criticism after launch, and not only that, the number of active players is also historically low, to the point that both its predecessors Battlefield V and Battlefield 1 are taking over.
Now, even Electronic Arts’ own Battlefield boss Vince Zampella admits that the game was not what it should have been. He says in an interview with Barron’s that the team behind the game has “deviated too much” from what Battlefield is expected to be:
“I think they just strayed a little too far from what Battlefield is. They tried to do a couple of things that were maybe ambitious: grow the player count etc. I don’t think they spent enough time iterating on what makes that fun. It’s not inherently a bad idea. The way they were set up and the way they executed just didn’t allow them to find the best thing possible.”
EA claims that content is still being developed for Battlefield 2042, but several insiders claim that Dice has largely abandoned the game and moved on to the next project.
