The bitter family dispute over the grandchildren’s titles changed everything.
The relationships in the Danish royal family have never been more complicated.
And it hits hard against this year’s royal Christmas celebrations.
Instead of the usual rowdy family Christmas, with five adults, eight children and six dogs, Queen Margrethe will celebrate with friends. While both her children escape the family quarrel and go abroad with the grandchildren. The Danish court now reveals this in a communique.
Danish Royal Family Christmas 2022
The Danish royal family is deeply divided after the painful family conflict that arose when Margrethe went out and announced that she was withdrawing the royal titles for four of her grandchildren.
Prince Joachim shaken after Margrethe’s shock decision about the grandchildren: “Badly treated”
This applies to Prince Nikolai, 23, Prince Felix, 20, Prince Henrik, 13, and Princess Athena, 10, who will therefore be in an unknown location abroad when they cease to be royal on New Year’s Eve and become counts and countesses respectively.
While Queen Margrethe contemplates the situation in her solitude at Marselisborg Castle in Aarhus.
– The Queen will take time off at the castle from December 21 to December 30 and celebrate Christmas Eve together with Her Royal Highness Princess Benedikte and private friends, the court writes in the communique.
– On New Year’s Eve at 18.00, Her Majesty gives her annual New Year’s speech from Christian IX’s Palæ at Amalienborg.
The Danish court continues:
– The Crown Prince’s family travels in December on a private Christmas holiday to Australia to celebrate the holiday together with the Crown Princess’s family.
– Prince Joachim and Princess Marie and their children will go on a long-planned trip abroad over Christmas.
However, where it goes is not official.
