The Dragon House – Who died in the 5th episode?

The House of the Dragon / Reproduction

Right at the beginning of the episode, the audience meets Rhea Royce, a character that had only been mentioned before. Played by Rachel Redford, Royce is the wife Daemon had previously shown to loathe. In an isolated place, the Targaryen and Royce find themselves in a great atmosphere of tension, making it evident that both do not admire each other in any way. Daemon then approaches Rhea Royce’s horse and scares the animal, causing it to fall on top of the noble. After that, Prince Targaryen uses a stone to take the life of his wife, who was paralyzed after the fall. Thus, Daemon got rid of the wife he didn’t love, as well as inheriting his lands.

At the end of the episode, we see the marriage of Rhaenyra Targaryen and Laenor Velaryon, a union that strengthens both houses and defines a promising future for the kingdom. With Rhaenyra and Laenor having their preferences, they both signed the agreement that the marriage would be purely political, so they would be free to seek pleasure with whomever they wished. In this scenario, the marriage that was supposed to end in a fruitful way for everyone ends in disgrace, when Criston Cole brutally kills Joffrey, the young lover of Laenor Velaryon. The reason? Joffrey had discovered his secret affair with Rhaenyra, making Cole feel threatened.
