The FIFA series changes its name

EA Sports reports Tuesday night that the FIFA games change name. The change will take place from July 2023. The reason is that EA and the International Football Association have not managed to put in place a new agreement.

The new name of the series will be EA Sports FC from next summer.

EA says that they have secured license agreements with over three hundred partners, including several clubs, football players and leagues. By all accounts, the content of the games will remain pretty much the same, even after the name change.

– Our unique license portfolio with over 19000 players, 700+ teams, 100+ arenas and 30 leagues that we will continue to invest in over several decades, will continue to be, unique in EA SPORTS FC. It includes exclusive partnerships with the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, MLS – and more will come, writes EA about the shift.

The New York Times reports that they are naturally not allowed to keep FIFA tournaments and modes such as the World Cup.

– We are incredibly excited to build a future for global football with all of you, and will share more information about EA SPORTS FC during the summer of 2023, the company says.
