The Tetris Grand Master game was only released on Japanese arcade machines. It will soon be adapted for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.
The game Tetris Grand Master, considered the most difficult Tetris game in the world, is going to be adapted on console, more than 20 years after its release. Released in 1998, Tetris Grand Master has no less than 999 levels of small colored bricks to stack on top of each other without filling the screen.
the specialized site VideoGamesChronicle indicates that this game is the first Tetris to have integrated the G20 gravity level, which means that, after a certain level, the bricks appear directly on the ground and the player has barely half a second to move them before that they do not freeze. Players are assigned a rank upon completion, ranging from number 9 to the title of “Grand Master”, as the name of the game suggests.
Available on Switch and PS4
The game will be available for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, as part of Japanese video game publisher Hamster Corporation’s Arcade Game Archive series. This publisher, specializing in arcade games, has adapted a retro game on Switch every week without exception since the release of the console in 2017. The adaptation of Tetris Grand Master celebrates the 300th game thus published. The information was also confirmed by Arika, the game’s original developer.
“We are pleased to announce that we have licensed the Hamster Corporation to port Tetris Grand Master to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.
The port has not yet received an official release date. When it appeared in 1998, Tetris Grand Master was available at arcades in Japan, but was never exported internationally or to home consoles.
The Tetris franchise is nevertheless very popular, and ranks very high among the most played games of all time with several hundred million copies sold or downloaded. It was also at the top of this ranking before being supplanted by the game, also of bricks, Minecraft.
