In Peru, since the protests broke out on December 7 after the removal of President Pedro Castillo, the number of deaths due to police repression rose to 60. For this reason, the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States convened for tomorrow a an extraordinary session.

Through a statement on its website, the OAS announced that the meeting of its main body with its headquarters in Washington will be at 2:30 p.m. (4:30 p.m. in Argentina) and will aim to consider “recent events in the Republic of Peru ”.

The request for said session was requested by the Government of Colombia, which has repudiated the repressive attitude of the Peruvian security forces on the protesters who reject the management of the current president Dina Boluarte. Argentina, Mexico, Chile, Bolivia and Honduras also condemned violence against citizens who express themselves in the streets.

The Foreign Minister of Peru, Ana María Gervasi, declared that the Presidency will detail the steps taken at the OAS session “to overcome this complex political crisis that we have been going through since December 7 of last year.”

Now, during the protests the immediate resignation of Boluarte, the release of Castillo, the dissolution of Congress and a constituent process are demanded.
