The story of Skull and Bones is not important, says Ubisoft

After a long wait, Ubisoft finally unveiled their pirate game Skull and Bones. The title is set to be released later this year, which is why we’re currently receiving a flood of new information about the game. For example, we already received a first gameplay trailer, and in a recent interview with True achievements Game Director Ryan Barnard explained what players can expect from Skull and Bones.

Skull and Bones is not a story game

Another representative of the pirate genre, Sea of Thieves doesn’t place much emphasis on plot or things like that. Players can simply set sail with their ship and seek out an adventure of their own. Incentives to actually do this are purely cosmetic in Sea of Thieves, with titles, new armor, and ship options. Ubisoft’s Skull and Bones will also not place much emphasis on the plot, but the so-called Infamy system will play a bigger role.

“Skull and Bones is not a narrative game. We have narrative parts – in the game you meet important NPCs called Kingpins who have their own stories that you learn while you build a relationship with them by making contracts with them. The game “There’s a story behind it that we use to build the entire world story, but that’s not the main focus. We want players to be able to create their own stories and choose the type of pirate they want to be.”

“Apart from what drives you through the progression system we call Infamy, is the fact that in-game you get access to blueprints that give you different types of ships, weapons, and armor that you’ll need to fight against new ones enemies to be effective.”

It will definitely be interesting to see how Skull and Bones develops (buy now ) will assert itself in the video game market. Reportedly, the game’s own developers aren’t particularly confident in the quality of their title, and this year’s release is said to come from a funding and grant deal with the government of Singapore, where the game is currently being developed. We’ll find out whether Skull and Bones will convince players on November 8th this year when the title is released for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Google Stadia.
