The intelligence services of Venezuela they commit crimes against humanity under the orders of high levels of the Government. That was the accusation made today by the UN Independent International Mission (United Nations Organization) in a report that deepens the complaints made in 2020.
“Our investigations and analysis show that the Venezuelan state uses the intelligence services and their agents to suppress dissent in the country. This leads to the commission of serious crimes and human rights violations, including acts of torture and sexual violence”denounced Marta Valiñas, president of the UN mission in Venezuela.
The mission documented 173 cases of these crimes —especially between the years 2017 and 2019— and based its conclusions on 246 remote interviews with the victims and their relatives, and with former officials of the Venezuelan intelligence services and security forces. Of all the cases, 122 would have been committed by the Dgcim (General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence) and 51, by the Sebin (Bolivarian National Intelligence Service).
High levels of government
One of the most worrying aspects of the report presented today is that the criminal activities of the Dgcim and the Sebin were the product of direct orders from both the president of VenezuelaNicolás Maduro, as the first vice president, Diosdado Cabelloor members of your close circle.
“The documented acts of violence were not carried out by isolated and unconnected individuals acting alone within the Sebin and the Dgcim. These violations, which constitute crimes against humanity, were part of a deliberate government policy to silence and suffocate opposition“, indicated the mission and assured that even today the same structures, patterns and practices are maintained in these spheres. The Government of the south american country It has not yet ruled on the allegations in this report.
