Game News The Witcher alumni backed by a video game giant, their AAA is on track
While The Witcher 3 is making its Next-Gen comeback, software veterans CD Projekt are preparing another project of their own with their new studio. They have just secured a major investment and backing from a gaming giant. What to announce good for their promising AAA?
Rebel Wolves, veterans of The Witcher
Last February, we learned about the creation of the Rebel Wolves studioa team of independents based in Poland and composed mainly of industry veterans, passed mainly by CD Projekt for the license The Witcher. At the head of the studio, we find in particular Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, director of The Witcher 3 and project manager on Cyberpunk 2077.
Independent, yes, but certainly not lacking in ambition. In the wake of its presentation, the studio presented its first project. A Dark-Fantasy AAA with an as yet unknown title, built with Unreal Engine 5 and designed for the latest console generations. A big game therefore, which will require big means. And precisely, Rebel Wolves has just secured the support of an industry giant.
“Go Full Throttle”
According to VGC, Rebel Wolves has just secured an essential investment for the proper functioning of the studio, money that does not come from just anyone. Thus, it is the giant NetEase Games which has just invested in Rebel Wolves, before becoming a minority shareholder of the studio at the same time. Despite NetEase’s entry into the scene, the studio retains full control over its license and remains operationally independent. For Konrad Tomaskiewcz, the arrival of NetEase is “the last missing piece before going full throttle”.
Having one of the world’s leading video game companies as the backing behind our vision gives a huge boost of confidence to the entire Rebel Wolves team. NetEase’s investment was the last missing piece before going full throttle.” Now that we have the resources to build our world-class AAA, we can focus on the essentials: development.
From now on, it only remains to follow the evolution of the first project of Rebel Wolves and to see what the studio will be able to offer us, especially after having worked on games like those of CD Projekt.
