While car journeys are sometimes very long, the Chinese firm Nio, already established in Europe since 2021 and which is preparing to arrive in the United States, has found an innovative solution. And orders for this astonishing object, which takes the form of augmented reality glasses, have just opened, for deliveries scheduled for next month.

A movie screen in the car

Called Nio Air AR Glass, this new product looks like a simple pair of glasses. But in reality, these are a true concentrate of technology, since their function is to project a cinema screento entertain passengers during long journeys.

Designed in partnership with Nreal, a company specializing in augmented reality, this accessory will then make it possible to create a 130 inch cinema screen in high definition. This device also offers the possibility of enjoying the car’s ambient lighting of 256 colors and an immersive 7.1.4 audio system with Dolby Atmos technology thanks to the speakers present in the car.

A system that requires a private car

Currently, Nio offers more than 200 3D movies and 260 Dolby Atmos compatible movies in its catalog, which can therefore be viewed with these glasses. These then work in conjunction with the PanoCinema, a digital cockpit using virtual and augmented reality.

Nevertheless, and as specified Car News China, only owners of Nio ET5 will be able to take advantage of this device, the electric sedan being the only one to be equipped with the PanoCinema for the moment. Owners of ET7 and ES8 can then make an appointment to install this feature at the dealership.

Already available

On the other hand, NIO vehicles based on the NT 1.0 platform, such as the ES6, EC6 and ES8 are currently not at all compatible with this technology. The Chinese manufacturer is currently working on their support, in order to be able to market its AR glasses to all its customers. If these are very close to the Nreal Air, developed by Nio’s partner, this model intended for the brand’s cars has some specificities.

They have in fact been designed for use in a vehicle, with specific anti-dazzle and anti-shake functions.. The screen can then be controlled by the NIO Air Smart Ring, a remote control developed in partnership with NOLO. Voice control is also available.

It then takes about 330 dollars to offer you a pair of Nio Air AR Glass. A price to which must be added that of the Air Smart Ring, which has not yet been announced. For the time being, however, we do not yet know in which countries these accessories will be available, while the manufacturer wishes to market its models in the rest of Europe and in particular in France in the coming months.
