More than a ton and a half of cocaine that was to be transported to Europe on a sailboat was seized in raids carried out in the Escobar district and in the Buenos Aires town of Canning, within the framework of the so-called “Operation Atlantis”, in which Six accused of being part of an organization dedicated to international drug trafficking were arrested.

The investigation arose from statements that in 2018 the accountant Diego Guastini (45) made as “repentant” in another case, convicted of currency trafficking and accused of money laundering for drug groups, who was murdered on October 28, 2019 by a hit man who attacked him with gunshots in the Quilmes match.

Among numerous data that he provided to the Justice, Guastini spoke of drug trafficking operations to Europe aboard ships and mentioned people who then began to be investigated by the Drug Crime Prosecutor’s Office (Procunar) and the Economic Crime and Money Laundering Prosecutor’s Office ( Procelac), both for its drug trafficking and financial activities.

One of these people, a resident of the seaside resort of Necochea, had also begun to be investigated by the Federal Prosecutor’s Office of that district, with the support of the Argentine Naval Prefecture (PNA), although the case was finally taken up by Procunar, which directs Diego Iglesias, and who had been working for a long time in collaboration with the National Gendarmerie (GN).

The investigations between the prosecution and the federal security forces gained further momentum a year later, when an Argentine with Spanish citizenship was arrested in Marbella, Spain for trafficking 1,500 kilos of cocaine.

In that operation it was determined that the drug had reached that area by sea and there were a total of five prisoners, one of them the Argentine with Spanish citizenship Gustavo Marano, who turned out to be a relative of the man investigated in Argentina, explained the judicial spokesmen.

During the subsequent years, the investigators analyzed the network of relationships and activities of that suspect and on June 10, based on wiretaps and monitoring, information emerged about an imminent transfer of a drug shipment to Europe by river and sea. .

From the follow-up ordered in the case, it was established that there were three boats that sailed through the Paraná River and that they made stops at the docks of different homes, where people raised and lowered waterproof bags -specially conditioned to avoid contact with water, dust or the mud.

GN and PNA patrols then followed up on these boats until they determined that one of them was attached to a sailboat called “Quo Vadis” that was further from the coast.

By order of federal judge 2 of Lomas de Zamora, Luis Armella, and at the request of Procunar and the Federal prosecutor’s office of that district, three days later, on June 13, federal agents carried out an operation aboard that sailboat and They arrested four people, while another two, including Marano’s relative, were arrested when they got off a boat on an island on the banks of the Paraná, near the Escobar district, where they rented a house.

When searching the house and a truck, the officers found 34 bags with 800 packages sealed with plastic and wrapped in pink piñatas, which contained a total of 889,255 kilos of cocaine.

The next day, the 14th, meanwhile, the homes of the detainees were raided and another 660,740 kilos of that same drug.

Within the framework of “Operation Atlantis”, in which new arrests and operations are not ruled out, six trucks, five cars -two of them high-end-, three boats (sailboat, speedboat and semi-rigid) have been seized for the time being. , six motorcycles, logistics elements, 650,000 pesos, 38,000 dollars, 53,690 euros and 11,300 reais, a bitcoin storage device, a money counting machine and documentation of interest to the cause, in addition to 1,549 kilos of cocaine.

The six detainees were investigated days ago and now the justice must resolve their procedural situations, the sources added.
