The upcoming Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is technically not a Borderlands game, but a kind of parody of a traditional fantasy-based role-playing game, but interpreted with Gearbox Software’s Borderlands formula. It also contains characters from Borderlands and other elements fans will recognize.
Among other things, director Matt Cox reveals in an interview with Eurogamer that the adventure will actually have randomly generated loot, just like in the Borderlands series:
“We wanted to have the same procedural tech that drives our guns also drive our spell books and our melee weapons, and to some degree, our armour as well. So, it’s made up of a bunch of different pieces that can all get mixed and matched together depending on rarity. And they all roll very similarly to guns. So, it was very important to us that the types of loot that people are used to in our brand of game aren’t just like little orbs of something, it’s actually loot that you find, that rolls with different parts.”
Cox also says that the game has increased its focus on magical abilities and melee weapons, so it seems as if there is little else in terms of the game to pick up in addition to the random gunpowder puffs.
