In March of this year, Borderlands fans and fantasy enthusiasts got a real treat. Borderlands spin-off Tiny Tinas Wonderlands is set in the world of a tabletop role-playing game called Bunkers and Badasses. The title probably appealed to players, because like Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford explained during Embracer Group’s AGMthe game exceeded all expectations.
From spin-off to standalone franchise
“Gearbox Software kicked off this year with the launch of a new franchise, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands (buy now €53.99 ), achieved great success. Wonderlands has exceeded all of our expectations, both critically and commercially, and I am pleased to report that we have established a solid position alongside great financial returns from this win to come in the quarters to come .”
With the huge success of Wonderlands, Gearbox would like to build a whole new franchise around the game, and new projects are said to be in the works.
“We clearly have a new franchise on our hands now, with future experiences at Gearbox already in development.”
From Pitchford’s statement, it’s not clear if this is a brand new game or if the company is working on new DLC for Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. Most recently, on August 11th of this year, Shattering Haunted Glass was the fourth DLC for the game, which, among other things, brought the new class Blightcaller into play.
