U20 World Athletics Championships: first medal for Algeria

The young Algerian athlete, Ismail Benhamouda, wins a distinction at the U20 World Athletics Championships. Hosted by the Colombian city of Cali, Colombia, the Under-20 World Athletics Championships were an opportunity for young athlete Benhamouda to earn a medal and a place on the podium.

Specialized in 10,000 meters walk, Ismail Benhamouda won the silver medal in the final of the category. For this penultimate day of the World Athletics Championships, it was finally time for medals for the Algerian athletes.

With the participation of 12 athletes, Algeria holds a medal during this event dedicated to young athletes.

Besides Ismail Benhamouda, other young Algerian athletes have signed their participation in the 2022 Cali Worlds. However, their fates were not similar to that of the silver medalist.

Thus, the athlete, Seifeddine Hafsi, failed at the gates of the semi-final of the 800 meters by occupying a non-qualifying place in the penultimate event of this category.

His compatriot, Heithem Chenitef, nevertheless created a sensation by taking first place in the same round of the competition. A place synonymous with a qualification in the 1/2 final. The events of this round will be held this evening at 9:50 p.m.

The young Chentif will try to draw inspiration from the coronation of Benhamouda by qualifying for the final of the 800 meters. For her part, the young Algerian athlete, Roukia Mouici, inherited second place in the semi-finals of the women’s 1500 meters.

However, this preview step did not allow the Algerian to make a place in the final of this category. As a reminder, the young athlete, Abderrahmane Daoud, managed to obtain his qualifying ticket for the final of the 3,000 meters steeplechase during the semi-final of the day on Wednesday.
