Uber says it is in contact with the FBI regarding GTA 6 hackers

This weekend came one of the biggest and most publicized leaks in industry history and for good reason, over an hour of Grand Theft Auto VI development footage was shared this Sunday the 18th. september. Rockstar has already publicly responded to this, but it seems that the author of these leaks did not only attack Rockstar Games.

The giant Uber in contact with the FBI to find a hacker in connection with the leaks of GTA 6

It’s through A press release that the giant Uber spoke about it. The company was the victim of an attack violating its security and the author would also be at the origin of the data leaks that affected Rockstar Games this weekend.

Uber is already in contact with the FBI and the US Department of Justice to try to shed light on this crisis situation. The pirate in question would have disclosed part of the information obtained via the Slack platform and would have declared to be the origin of the leaks from GTA 6 and the attack targeting Uber.

An obvious link can be made, but nothing is certain until the investigation is thorough. According to Uber, it is the group of hackers Lapsus$ which could be at the origin of these successive attacks.

Remember earlier this year, we discovered that Lapsus$ had carried out several cyberattacks targeting major technology companies such as Nvidia, Microsoft, Vodaphone, Ubisoft and Samsung. A 16-year-old British boy suspected of being one of the leaders of this group had been arrested and accused of having accumulated more than 14 million dollars thanks to these successive attacks. Here is what the report published by Uber states in particular:

“This group typically uses similar techniques to target tech companies, and in 2022 alone it breached Microsoft, Cisco, Samsung, Nvidia, and Okta, among others.

There are also reports over the weekend that this same actor raped video game maker Rockstar Games. We are in close coordination with the FBI and the US Department of Justice on this matter and will continue to support their efforts.”

This case is far from over and future investigations could hold many surprises for us. We will have to follow this closely to discover the different impacts that these attacks will have on these large groups and in particular on Rockstar Games.
