LUkraine will close the transit of Russian gas destined for Europe on Wednesday morning, which passes through its east, the Ukrainian gas operator GTS announced on Tuesday evening. The reason for this is the occupation by Russian forces of the territory on which the installations are located, a “force majeure” which makes it impossible to monitor the flow.

This is 32.6 million cubic meters of daily gas that is about to be blocked, almost a third of what Russia exports to Europe every day.

According to GTS, the Russian occupation makes it impossible to access the connection point located in Sokhranovka. The Russian gas giant Gazprom for its part indicated that it is not possible to transport the gas by other routes.

Europe has been very concerned about gas supplies since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Many Western European countries want to economically punish Russia, but have no alternative other than Russia, which is also feared to decide to cut gas supplies.
