Ukraine, which won the great European song contest in the spring, will participate in the junior edition, which will take place next December.
Will Ukraine win Junior Eurovision after winning Eurovision in the spring? The country formalized this week its participation in the children’s version of the famous European song contest.
Candidates between the ages of 9 and 14 will be able to participate. Selections are open until August 22. The competition will take place on Sunday, December 11. This twentieth edition takes place in Armenia, which won Eurovision Junior in 2021.
Ukraine already won the junior competition in 2012 with the piece Nebo (The sky), played by Anastasiya Petryk. In the spring, the Ukrainian group Kalush Orchestra won the classical competition with the song Stefania.
Eurovision Junior without Russia and Germany
Several countries have already confirmed their participation including France, Italy and Portugal. Germany will not take part in the competition this year – as will Russia, which was expelled from the EBU (European Broadcasting Union) last February.
Eurovision 2023 will take place in Great Britain and not in Ukraine, which has denounced the decision to withdraw its hosting of the next edition for security reasons after the Russian invasion of its territory.
