US bans arrests of migrants at work sites

Washington.- The Joe Biden Administration announced that immigration authorities will stop arresting undocumented migrants at work sites, according to CBS.

The Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security of the United States, Alejandro Mayorkas, informed in a memorandum of the change of priorities for the immigration authorities.

“Our enforcement efforts in the workplace can have a significant impact on the well-being of individuals and the fairness of the labor market,” he wrote in the text.

“Our accomplishments in this area make it clear that we can maximize the impact of our efforts by targeting unscrupulous employers who exploit the vulnerability of undocumented workers.”

The message is directed to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), and Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

The decision ends with a policy implemented by former President Donald Trump since 2019 that led, among other cases, to the arrest of 700 migrants at a food processing plant in Mississippi, according to CBS.
